El Centro’s mission extends beyond direct services that connect workers to jobs, workforce development and job skills training; by engaging in organizing efforts to address systemic barriers impacting its membership and their families.  Examples include: the successful passage of a City of Denver ordinance around wage theft in 2004 effectively criminalizing wage theft under $1,000 and the most recent passage of the Wage Protection Act that went into affect January 2015, strengthening existing state laws around wage theft.

During the last 4 years El Centro has been building its base to undertake a multi-year effort to advance workplace rights for Domestic Workers.

In addition, El Centro continues to organize and involve day laborers who meet at informal sites on street corners, such as one in Aurora on Dayton and Colfax.
